Homemade Flip Camcorder Cover

I made a cover for my Flip Camcorder. I keep the instructions and extra rechargeable batteries in the pocket. If I had it to do over again I would do the following: Cut a piece of cover fabric, lining and polyester batting 5 x 25 inches. Baste the batting to the wrong side of the lining. Put the right sides of the cover and lining together and sew 1/4 inch seam on three sides leaving the top flap open. Trim the batting. Turn right side out and iron. Do the same for the 3 x 5 inch pocket and the 3 x 2.5 inch pocket flap. Fold the open seam and sew either by hand or machine. Sew the pocket and flap on the front or back of the cover. Placing right sides of the cover together sew the sides leaving an extra 2.5 inch for the flap cover. Turn right side out. This will be a French seam. Sew velcro on the pocket and cover flap. Note: I printed several pictures on a filmstrip to look like a video. I then used water soluble varnish to seal the pictures. If contrasting colors like shown above is desired cut those portions out separately.

Caleb, Randy, Bryan and I worked on the wagon for Pioneer Days at school. Caleb's teacher showed him how he can color the clay and then make figures.

Baltimore Oriole

This male Oriole is determined to get in the house through the window. He decided to fly full speed through the window and was stunned. I made sure all the dogs were in and then went and took pictures of him. They seem to love oranges and jellies of all kinds. I have seen two females and at least one male. They sometimes get the hummingbird feeder rocking and then it leaks.

Painting Gourds

I painted the gourds using a basecoat and then acryllic paint. I finished with a spray varnish. There is Moonflowers and moth, giant pear and penguin. Note: I went and looked at the gourds I painted a year or two ago. I didn't use gesso or any other basecoat and the paint is peeling. One of the gourds we have hanging on our deck moves perpetually even when there is no wind. We can't hear any babies but there must be some in there. The penguin gourd has found a good home with a friend.

Pillow cases were made with a kitty on a heart. The back of the pillow is minky and a favorite picture can be placed in the plastic frame. Hidden pockets and journal was placed inside the pillow.

Applique A

A lower case A was appliqued on the pocket of g-daughter's pink jacket.

G-son's Art

The flowers are held by each grandson. The right hand of the older g-son and the left hand of the younger one. After tracing the boys arms Caleb painted it. Great job!

Sewing Storage

A cabinet was purchased at Lowe's. The shelves were used to store fabric. Coat hangers were twisted so bags could be hung by the bar. Each bag contains a quilt or project. A dry erase marker can be used to write the stage of each project on the door. The top shelf is great for storage of thread and ribbon. The top of the cabinet is used to store the mat and craft supplies. OK, so the rest of the room is a disaster again......

Booklet

Pages were printed on Pabric which is a soft, non-woven material. An empty pill folder was used as the cover. The pages were printed, cut, folded and glued in the cardboard folder. A printed cover was glued over the folder to make a inexpensive, small booklet.

Pocket Pictures

Pockets from old jeans are sewn together and a zipbind was sewn in the center. Pictures or journaling may be placed in the pocket album. The pockets are used for small camera or treasures.

Placemats

Last Thanksgiving not all family members were able to come home therefore placemats were made for everyone (even those absent) and laminated using a WalMart laminator. The film is nice and thick and it is something that can be brought out each year.

Shoe Blankie

A small 19 x 24 inch blanket was appliqued with shoes and a picture of the princess. The blanket was made to be dragged around the house.

Green Bunny

The Green Bunny was designed after a free pattern from Craft Bits(http://www.craftbits.com/viewProject.do?projectID=1282) called Signature Bunny. The pattern was alterred by making the neck, leg, ears and arms longer than the pattern (1/2, 1, 1 and 1 inch respectively). I used scrap paper and outlined the pattern by placing the paper on the computer screen and then tracing each part. The material is green chenille with cream minky on the feet and ears. It is a great bunny to drag around. Poor Backhoe Bunny's ear was not sewn on well and had to be repaired.

Black and White Photo Quilt

Pictures were printed on 200 ct white cotton (C. Jenkins) using an Epson R1900 Inkjet Printer. Some fabrics were drapery material because I was unable to find bold B/W prints. I used a smaller stitch length because of raveling of the threads. The quilt was tied with black embroidery thread using high loft polyester batting and blank minky for the back of the quilt. This is a quick and easy quilt. The book "Photocraft" had a version of this quilt and many great ideas.

Printing on Ribbon.

After much trial and error I was able to print on polyester ribbon with my Epson R1900 Ink Jet Printer. I cut the 2.5 inch ribbon to 18 inch lengths. I also cut Reynolds Freezer Paper to the same size. I ironed the paper on the back of the ribbon at the Polyester setting. I printed the design on the plain paper/draft setting. The paper and ribbon spirals after a short time so I re-ironed the ribbon just prior to printing. I ironed the paper/ribbon to remove the paper backing. The ribbon was cut with a pinking rotary cutter into 6 inch strips.

Things I discovered were that I had to set the paper size to 3.5 by 18 inches since the printer would not print narrower than that. I had to offset the image to the side and luckily the paper guide would go down to the 2.5 inches. I also learned NEVER try to feed the ribbon without the paper backing since it just disappears...... Also, when I tried to print on a setting with better resolution it smeared.

Note: Although this worked it probably is not without risk
